Fees

Taking a course has never been better value. Lots of the courses are free and others cost very little. Students who are unemployed may not have to pay tuition fees at all, and there are initiatives to help you pay for courses and any materials you may need.

FURTHER EDUCATION COURSES

Students on some specialist courses may have to buy certain items of equipment, such as specialist clothing, and details will be given at the time of enrolment.

There are no tuition fees for courses at Burton College for students aged between 16-18. Adults may be liable for fees, however the following groups of students can attend FREE:

- in receipt of job seekers allowance or a means tested state benefit, Housing benefit, Council Tax benefit, Income Support and Working Tax Credit where household income is less than £15,050.

- Unwaged dependants of the above.

- Whose primary learning goal is adult basic education or English as a second language and they comply with the eligibility rules.

- Students over 16 and under 19 on 01.09.08.

- Plus Level 2 & Level 3 entitlement.*

Students eligible for discount on their tuition fees are required to pay 10% of any awarding body examination fee.

Level 2 Entitlement? is an offer of free tuition, exam and awarding body fees if you are studying for your first full Level 2 or 3 qualification. You can be studying full or part-time. If you are employed and interested in this offer, please discuss this with your employer.

If you are 19 or over and undertaking your First Full Level 2 Qualification (eg. 5 GCSEs grade A*-C; BTEC First Diploma; GNVQ Intermediate; NVQ L2) you will not pay tuition fees.

If you are aged between 19 and 25 and undertaking your First Full Level 3 Qualification (eg. 2 A Levels/AVCEs; International Baccalaureate; BTEC National Certificate/ Diploma; GNVQ Advanced; NVQ L3) you will not pay tuition fees.

The fees listed on this website are fully inclusive of tuition. Additional examination and awarding body registration are detailed where available.

Additional costs for materials are payable by all students. Additional costs for residential elements may be paid at a later stage in the year.


I AM ON A LOW INCOME CAN I STILL CAN I GET ANY HELP?

The learner support fund is a fixed amount of money given to colleges to help students who may have difficulties in completing their courses because of financial hardship. Funds are awarded to individuals according to need. However, please note this fund cannot usually assist with course fees. We can assist with equipment, uniforms, travel and childcare.

People from outside the EU may be liable to overseas fees.

A few courses are not funded by the Learning & Skills Council. In these circumstances we cannot offer a discount on tuition fees for any student and these are marked NR.
