University Centre

Size: Three storey, 2500 square metre
Cost: The £5m project has been jointly funded by Advantage West Midlands, Burton Community Project, Staffordshire University, the Learning and Skills Council and from College reserves.
Key features: Computer rooms, cyber cafe, recording studio, management and business centre, the Lean Manufacturing Centre, 10 start-up units for new business enterprises and digital media suite.

The primary objectives of the University Centre
The Centre is radically different from traditional universities focusing on the following aims:
To design and deliver courses in partnership with local industry to ensure that students have the skills required to support and economic development of the area and to secure a successful career.
To act as the hub for working with employers to train their workforce and develop the skills necessary to compete in global markets.
To widen participation in higher education by raising aspirations in disadvantaged areas and under-represented groups especially from the inner wards of Burton upon Trent and South Derbyshire.
To provide progression routes for the College’s further education students and pupils from local secondary schools.
To provide 10 managed small business start up units for students or local entrepreneurs wishing to develop new businesses.
