Welcome to the School of Business & Professional Studies. You have just taken the first step into the exciting world of local, national and global business. Business is a diverse area and the School can offer many different routes for you to follow including Business, Counselling, Trade Legal, Accounting, Customer Service, Management, Personnel and Teacher Training.
We offer a management development programme which leads from ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 3 right through to a Level 5 Diploma in Management. We also have a wide selection of teacher training courses, including the BA(hons)Education and the Certificate in Education:PGCE (franchised from Nottingham Trent University), both are very popular courses, enjoying an excellent reputation.
If you would rather gain your qualifications at work, the School has a wide range of customer made courses for employers, anything from one-day customer service or health and safety courses to a professional qualification related to your job.
Our staff are well qualified, many have worked in industry so understand the pressures of work. Professional specialisms include Association of Accounting Technicians, Chartered Institute of Personnel Development and Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and NEBOSH qualifications. Our number of accounting students is particularly high.
The School has a very successful academic record. The QAA review grade for Business and Management (2001) was given 22/24 (excellent) and the Education provision (at Nottingham Trent University) was awarded 22/24.

LEGAL SECRETARIES RECEIVE CAREERS ADVICE
A representative from the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) visited Burton College, to provide careers advice to local trainee legal secretaries. Jamil Karkach, an ILEX Regional Liaison Officer, gave the secretaries on the ILEX Legal Secretaries’ Certificate and Diploma courses a presentation about the various career opportunities in law.
BUSINESS STUDENTS VISIT JCB
Business Studies students enjoyed a trip to the JCB Head Office to gain an insight into the operation of a successful business. Students experienced how the JCB operation works from the raw materials to the finished product.
JB KIND EMPLOYEE ACHIEVES PROFESSIONAL TRAINER CERTIFICATE
An employee from Burton’s J B Kind Ltd achieved a professional trainer certificate as part of the national industry trade association Timber Packaging and Pallet Confederation (TIMCON) professional training programme. The course, developed and delivered by Burton College, allows members of TIMCON the opportunity to have certified in-house trainers as accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
