| STUDENTS SUPPORT 1GOAL | ||
Sports students at Burton College have joined schools and colleges in over 100 countries to show their support to the global campaign for education; 1GOAL – Send My Friend To School. Borne out of the Education for All goals established by 164 world governments
in 2000, which strive to end poverty through education, and run by the
Global Campaign for Education, 1GOAL is a campaign supported by the football
world and its governing body which seeks to achieve education for all.

| STUDENTS TAKE PART IN DERBYSHIRE COUNTY DANCE PLATFORM | ||
Dance students from Burton College have performed at Buxton Opera House, as part of Derbyshire County Dance Platform. Initially established in 2009, the first countywide youth dance platform for Derbyshire was held at The Assembly Rooms in Derby. Following its success, Interface 10 was presented, which this year took place at Buxton Opera House. The students performed one piece of work entitled “What’s Here Stays Here’”, which was choreographed by their tutors and was set to music by Michael Nyman. |

| CREATIVE STUDIES STUDENTS HOLD END OF YEAR EXHIBITION | ||
Over 400 students from the Creative Industries Area of Learning at Burton College are showcasing a range of their work in an imaginative End of Year Exhibition, entitled Exhibition TwentyTen. On show will be a cross section of art, design, film and media work representing the current range of courses on offer that have allowed students to specialise in specific areas of expertise including fine art and illustration, photography, sculpture, interior and furniture design, textiles, surface pattern, fashion, ceramics and glass, graphic design, film making, animation and multi media computer based art work. |

| LOCAL BARBER SPONSORS COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM | ||
Local barber “Bob the Barber” has generously agreed to sponsor Burton College’s five-a-side football team. The Market Place hairdresser has donated £200 to the College’s team, which is currently third place in the Champions Soccer League which plays at The Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic School every Wednesday, to enable them to purchase a new strip from TAG sports clothing. |

| STUDENTS TAKE PART IN ARMY COMPETITION | ||
A team of nine Public Uniformed Services students from Burton College have taken part in a competition organised by the Army. The students travelled to Nesscliffe Training Area in Shropshire to participate
in the Army FE Cup; a competition designed to provide competitors with
an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in areas such as teamwork,
physical endurance, decision-making and leadership over a ten mile course. |

| STUDENTS STAGE AN EVENING AT THE MOULIN ROUGE | ||
Burton’s Belvedere Park Club has been the venue for “An Evening At The Moulin Rouge”, a Musical Theatre Evening devised, choreographed, directed and performed by Dance students from Burton College. A form of theatre combining music, songs, dialogue and dance, The Musical Theatre evening featured interpreted extracts from the famous musical love story Moulin Rouge, which was made into an Oscar winning film by director Baz Luhrmann. |

| COLLEGE STUDENT WINS PRESTIGIOUS ART AWARD | ||
A Photography student from Burton College has won an inaugural Free Range 2010 Art Award, marking him out as one of the country’s brightest talents. Chris Mear (19) from Ashby, a Foundation Degree in Digital Media Production student was selected for the award following his exhibition of work at the Free Range Art & Design Show at the Old Truman Brewery in East London. Europe’s largest graduate art and design show, Free Range was established to celebrate the best of young British art and design, presenting the work of thousands of graduates from around the country. |

| STUDENT REACHES FINALS OF NATIONAL COMPETITION | ||
A Beauty Therapy student from Burton College has been chosen as one of only six from across the country to take part in the National Finals of the prestigious SEBTA Student Electrotherapy Beauty Therapist Award. Sponsored by Carlton Professional, the award, which focuses on excellence in facial electrotherapy, seeks to find the best electrotherapists in the country. |

As part of Burton College’s End of Year Art & Design Exhibition, Photography students will be exhibiting a range of their work at Burton Library this month. Entitled Free Range, the show is an extension exhibition of the students’ work, which will be on display at the 10th Annual Free Range Art & Design Show at the Old Truman Brewery in East London from 17 until 21 June. Europe’s largest graduate art and design show, Free Range was established to celebrate the best of young British art and design, presenting the work of thousands of graduates from around the country. |

| BUSINESS LINK PROVIDES ADVICE TO STUDENTS | ||
Two representatives from Business Link West Midlands have visited students at Burton College to provide an insight into how to start a small business together with general career planning advice. Advisers Chris Rutherford and Sheila Henshall, who are working with Business Enterprise Support, Burton spent the morning with the group, who are following a variety of Business courses at the Lichfield Street campus, discussing what the free business advice and support service can offer young entrepreneurs wishing to start their own businesses. |

| MOONWALKING FOR CHARITY | ||
A Burton College member of staff is set to take part in The Moonwalk Edinburgh 2010 in aid of Walk the Walk, to help raise funds for breast cancer research and care. On Saturday 19 June, Audit and Compliance Officer Kirsty Freeman, and
her team of friends called “NiCKs”, will be joining thousands
of others to power walk 26.2 miles around Edinburgh dressed in their bras.

| MOBILE TOOL ROADSHOW VISITS COLLEGE | ||
A mobile roadshow from Europe’s leading supplier of industrial tools has visited Burton College. The Gedore Mobile Tool Demonstration Van, spent the afternoon at the Lichfield Street campus’s Automotive & Engineering Skills Academy development, providing students and apprentices on a range of engineering, manufacturing and motor vehicle courses the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a variety of hand tools used within the industries from spanners, ratchets and screwdrivers to pliers and chisels. |
